Two men suspected to have raped an old woman in Muchanganyiko estate were killed by a mob this morning.
The two men were cornered and beaten up before being subjected to a lynching by irate members of the public in an incident that brought business to a standstill and caused a heavy traffic jam along the busy highway.
According to the area Sub chief Wesley Karani, who confirmed the incident, two young men were strangers in the area and had raped the old woman who sold tobacco.
They posed as customers before storming her house in the slum area in the early hours of the morning. The sub chief said that the men who were hawking second hand clothes were later fished from an illicit brews drinking joint at a separate section of the area after the granny’s relatives and other residents raised an alarm.
“The old woman was discovered by one of her male relative and neighbors reeling in pain in her house. She described the young men physically before a manhunt ensured. They were found at a drinking joint and arrested by some residents who brought them to the old woman for identification,” said Karani.
Karani added that the suspected rapists were then frog matched to the business centre from was they were beaten up and set on fire by an angry mob. Their charred bodies were picked by police officers from Bahati police station and taken to Nakuru County General Hospital mortuary.
