Security officers in Mombasa are holding two suspected robbers accused of stealing Sh400, 000 from a businessman in Changamwe.The suspects, who were later identified as Paul Kimeu Mbaraki and Julius Mbondo Musau, were arrested in Nyali following a police crackdown. Police also recovered a vehicle suspected to have been used in the robbery, Baraka FM reports. According to police reports, the businessman had gone to withdraw the said amount of money from a bank in the Central Business District (CBD) before the robbers obstructed him at the Kibarani courseway and stole the cash. The suspected robbers bundled the man into a private car which was driven off by one of the suspects as the other remained behind with the car belonging to the victim. The victim is said to have been driven to Tudor area before he was later directed to collect his car in Chaani, Changamwe. Confirming the incident, DCIO for Changamwe Francis Wanjau said the man reported the incident after he was released by the suspected robbers, adding that they had stolen the money leaving behind a mobile phone and laptop which were in his the car. “We circulated the matter to all of our officers on duty and thanks to technology, the number plates of the suspect’s vehicle were captured leading to their arrest,” said Wanjau, as quoted by Baraka FM.One of the officers investigating the incident told the local daily that one of the suspects had a police radio that they were allegedly using during the time of arrest to disguise themselves as officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).The suspects were taken to Nyali police station before being handed over to Changamwe CID officers pending investigations.
