Police in Eldoret town have launched a manhunt for two suspected robbers who managed to escape following a shootout at Baharani trading center in the outskirts of Eldoret town.

The two were among a group of four people who shot at the police who were on patrol at Baharini in the outskirts of Eldoret town.

Two others were shot dead during the Thursday morning incident.

According to Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga, the police on patrol trailed a vehicle that had suspicious occupants and when they flagged them down, they shot at police.

"When my officers stopped the car that the suspects were in, they shot and them but since they were ready they shot back and fatally injured two of them," Mutunga told the press at his office in Eldoret on Thursday.

"Two others managed to escape to the nearest kiosks and the police could not shoot at them there were people around," he added.

A pistol with several rounds of ammunition and a knife was recovered at the crime scene.

The identity of the killed suspects remains unknown even as bodies of the shot dead suspects were taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Eldoret town.
