Two suspected thieves were on Saturday afternoon roughed up by angry residents at Kathome bus stage, along the Nairobi-Machakos road after they tried to snatch a handbag from a passenger.
The two had followed the handbag's owner from Kyumbi where she had boarded a vehicle to alight at the bus stage where the incident took place.
According to a witness, the duo tried to snatch the bag immediately the woman alighted from the bus.
He said it was at this moment when the passengers and pedestrians descended on them.
"The woman's handbag had Sh100,000, and it is a shock as to no one knows how the criminals knew about the same," said one of the passengers.
The suspects were rescued by traffic police officers from nearby police station after residents resorted to lynching them.
They were taken to Machakos police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.
The woman was also ordered to record a statement on the same.
