Security  agents investigating the two terror incidents in Mandera and Garissa counties have arrested two key suspects,  North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud  Saleh has said.

Saleh told KNA that the two suspects are being interrogated by a multi agency security team from the police, army and the intelligence.

“I can confirm the arrest of the two suspects in the two incidents. They are being interrogated by a multi agency security team. At this point, I can’t reveal more details,” he said as reported by KNA.

Saleh said police believe one of the suspects took part in planting an Improvised Explosive Device along Dadaab – Liboi road in Garissa County that killed four on May 16th .

The other suspect is believed to have been involved in the shooting to death of Chief Omar Jillow of Deko Silat location in Mandera County on May 15th.

Saleh  said the enhanced patrols along Kenyan – Somali border and sealing off of all possible entry points has restricted movement of the militant inside Somalia.

“These are desperate attempts by the Al-Shabab militant to sneak and carry out attacks and flee so as to remain relevant after they found it difficult to operate in major towns,” he added.

He noted that the roads the militants planted IEDs were also used by civilians.

He however, said police are investigating the attacks.

“We are not leaving anything to chance. We shall follow all the leads and get to the bottom of these incidents,” he noted.
