Electoral body, IEBC, could be thrown into unimaginable limbo should opposition leader Raila Odinga make his election boycott threats real, says Moseti Moseti.
Lists of demands have been submitted by NASA to IEBC for ratification, failure to which they will not precipitate in presidential elections repeat.
And the Supreme Court ruling that exposed IEBC’s inefficiencies could work against IEBC with international community being keen to see transparency in the entire exercise.
“IEBC has two options and I think they may go ahead and hold elections even without Odinga. This is however not a likelihood given the interest by the international community,” he says.
Moseti adds:”But we are likely to see them succumb to opposition pressure by executing the radical surgery and even push elections to a later date.”
Some of the issues that Odinga’s wants addressed are removal of CEO Ezra Chiloba and a host of Returning Officers, opening of IEBC servers and even allowing a neutral team of experts to oversee transmission of results.
Should the crisis persist past the 60 days constitutional ultimatum, Kenya will be forced to accommodate a transitional government.
