Three Uasin Gishu County Executives (CeC's) on Wednesday toured the Eldoret main market to asses its current state.
The three CeC's led by Trade's Dr. Emily Kogos, Mary Njogu (Environment) and Nelson Maritim (Lands) were accompanied by their respective Chief Officers in the fact-finding mission to the dilapidated market.
After the visit, they agreed that the market needs serious accessibility measures taken as well as the construction of a drainage system to aid in waste disposal so as to curb illegal dumping.
The dampness witnessed at the market is believed to be caused by the heavy rain that is pounding across the country.
Speaking during the visit, the Environment CeC called on the market committee and the public to work closely with the county in the realization of a clean environment not only in Eldoret town but also in the villages.
She also accused the Jua kali committee members of neglecting to report cases where old motor vehicle tires believed to be ferried from other counties are being burnt at River Sosiani.
"We will not be responsible for digging a huge mountain of the remains of the burnt tires," said Njogu.
"...you should be responsible for what you have been generating. In this case, the county will only provide the vehicle that will transport the waste," added the Environment CeC.
