The High Court has directed parties in the two-thirds gender rule case to file their responses and submissions within the next seven days.

Justice John Mativo ordered that the parties go back to court on September 20 to work on highlighting the submissions.

The Federation of Women Lawyers-Kenya last week renewed their push to coerce Parliament to implement the rule that fights for women inclusivity in leadership.

The body sued the AG, the National Assembly and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

It complained that the deadline to enact legislation needed to implement the gender rule has lapsed.

In their submissions, FIDA said that the 12th Parliament must be compelled to comply with the law or be regarded illegally constituted.

According to the Constitution, not more than two-thirds of appointed or elected bodies should be constituted of one gender.

FIDA argued that said the number of elected MCAs and MPs has more than two-thirds of men and less than a third of women.

They want a declaration saying that Parliament's failure to implement the gender rule was a violation of women’s rights and the Constitution.
