A goal each from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric, and Ivan Rakitic ensured the Croats overpower their South American opposition in that encounter.

Their chances of reaching the next stage of the competition are in doubt as they are yet to win a single game.

However, the Barca star could lead a few other players to their retirement as they are reportedly not happy with coach Jorge Sampaoli owing to his management style.

The former Chile boss substituted Aguero in the second half of their game against Croatia despite his side trailing 1-0. Meanwhile, the City star told reporters after the game that Sampaoli can: "say what he wants" after suffering a disappointing defeat to the Croatians.

According to the Mirror, some high profile La Albiceleste players will also follow in the footsteps of Messi and Aguero.

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, Ever Banega, Angel Di Maria, Javier Mascherano and Gonzalo Higuain are also a possibility.

Croatia has won their opening two games against Nigeria and Argentina - meaning they are through to the next round and their next game against Iceland will be inconsequential.

While Argentina has one last game against the Super Eagles on Tuesday, June 26 - even as their chances of making it through to the next round remain very slim.

This is Argentina’s worst campaign at World Cup since 1958 and also their worst start since 1974 as Lionel Messi failed to help his national team.
