A court has issued warrants of arrest for Runyenjes Member of Parliament Cecily Mbarire and Embu Speaker Justus Mate.

This follows reports that the duo prevented a senior police officer from doing his work.

The arrest warrants were issued by Resident Magistrate Jean Ndengeri after the Jubilee leaders failed to appear in court on Tuesday.

Mbarire and Mate are facing charges of keeping Embu police boss Francis Sang from performing his duties at Embu Teaching and Referral Hospital following nominations.

Ndengeri ordered police to apprehend the leaders and take them to court on Thursday. They have the option of appearing voluntarily to answer to charges concerning the April 27 incident.

The prosecution applied for the warrants when the case was mentioned today.

Mbarire and Mate were initially to appear in court last Friday for allegedly committing the offence, with others not before court.

They are said to have led their supporters in storming the hospital on claims the county returning officer was manipulating results for the governor nominations.

The officer had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering serious injuries during an attack by people believed to be politicians' supporters.
