Two varsity students were on Tuesday injured after a fire broke out in one of the hostels located around Maseno University.
The incident occurred at the Caroline Herein hostels.
Reports indicate that the fire was caused by a faulty gas which exploded leading to the outbreak.
Two students who were in the room during the incident sustained injuries trying to put off the fire.
Neighbours rushed to the scene immediately and put off the fire before it caused much damage.
Speaking to a Hivisasa writer, a student leader from the institution confirmed the outbreak adding that the injured had been rushed to hospital for treatment.
"This evening a fire incident has been reported at one room on the 2nd floor of Caroline Herein hostels. The incident was caused by a faulty gas. Two casualties have sustained minor injuries and have been rushed to the hospital. I wish them quickest recovery. Thanks to those who helped to put out the fire in good time.As the students council we will stand with the affected students and in the near future we look forward to sensitizing comrades on fire safety measures," Mike Odoyo stated.
