Apollo Malowa, the pilot of the helicopter that crashed in Lake Nakuru a fortnight ago, as well as one of the passengers, Anthony Kipyegon, were laid to rest on Saturday.

Apollo was buried in Bondo and Kipyegon in Eldama ravine in an emotional send off.

At Toniok in Eldama ravine the funeral was attended by among others Cabinet Secretary for East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Phyllis Kandie, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika as well as County Assembly Speaker Joel Maina Kairu.

At Lake Nakuru, recovery mission continued on Saturday.

Uncertainty still surrounds the search and recovery mission for the remaining three bodies after some divers pulled out  of the exercise because of lack of adequate resources.

According to reliable sources, nine divers from Bomet County Government and nine fishermen from Fisheries Department in Naivasha pulled out on Friday.

Currently, Kenya Navy and Kenya Divers Rescue, who are sponsored by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, are the ones engaged in the mission.

In a phone interview, Jonathan Kerich from the National disaster operations centre confirmed that the fishermen pulled out because they were catering for their own accommodation and other expenses.

Family members of the missing persons have been visiting the rescue site every day with hopes that the bodies will be found.

According to them, there is need for the government to put in place more rescue personnel in order to hasten the exercise.
