This happened on Monday in Matongo village, Igorera Kenyenya Kisii County.

Two women, Zipporah Kerubo (first wife) and Lydia Kemunto exchanged blows in broad daylight as villagers watched.

“Kerubo started the fight accusing Kemunto of keeping the husband in her house without allowing him to check on her. The man’s efforts to stop the two from fighting didn’t yield fruits leading to the intervention of villagers who separated the two from fighting,” said Andrew Nyabwari.

Nyabwari faulted the man for neglecting the first wife saying he should serve them equally.

“It is shameful for the man to ignore his first wife and spend most of his time with the second wife. He chose to marry both of them so he should treat them equally to curb unnecessary fights,” he said.

Area assistant chief Benjamin Keragori said family fights are common in the village but, warned men who have married more than one wife to ensure they provide for their wives equally.

Keragori warned women against engaging in fistfights saying anyone found fighting will be arrested and taken to court to be charged over the assault.
