A two-year-old girl who went missing in Nairobi's Imara Daima estate has been rescued.
Amanda Owino was rescued by police officers from Busia Uganda while being driven out of the border town.
She went missing on August 16, after a house help assigned to her care disappeared vanished with her.
Relatives sung praise songs as Amanda reunited with her mother, Fiona Juma, at the Busia Kenya police station.
According to Busia County Police Commander Halima Abdi, relatives and police from Kenya and Uganda worked in collaboration to ensure the girl is rescued.
"It wasn't an easy task for us who are at the border," she said.
"When we were briefed about the incident, police had to do their work day and night," Ms Abdi.
She said the girl was in good health.
Abdi said they were alerted over a suspicious looking girl with a baby headed out of Busia town in Uganda.
That's when officers moved in and arrested the house-help, 14-year-old Ugandan-born Jesica Nawire.
After reuniting with her family, her mother, with tears rolling down her cheeks said: "Losing a child is a bad experience."
"When we got information of her missing, we distributed word all over including social media.
Elated by the news that their baby had been found, relatives thronged the Busia Kenya police station where they danced to sacred songs.
"My granddaughter has been found," Amanda's grandfather, Joseph Ogutu said.
"We did not sleep as we prayed that her whereabouts get know."
Police cautioned parents to thoroughly vet house-helps to ensure such incidents do not occur.
Nawire, the suspect, has been transferred to the Embakasi police station in Nairobi.
