A tycoon’s daughter has sent an incumbent President into panic mode after she announced her bid for the county’s top seat.
The 35-year old daughter of the former financier of the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front party will be seeking to oust President Paul Kagame as an independent candidate in the next August election.
Diane Rwigara parted ways with RPF after her father’s demise which she termed was a well-organized assassination. However, the police dismissed her accusations and said it was a normal road accident that claimed the life of Assinapol Rwigara in 2015.“Everybody is scared to express themselves because they are too scared of the ruling party,” she said as quoted by Capital. She said she is not into it to take advantage of the industrialist’s name but to fight injustices and poverty. She also lamented at the secret extra-judicial killings that are witnessed in Rwanda.“I am not here to talk about my father. We all know here… people… disappeared or… killed. The only people who are given a voice are the people praising the regime,” Diane Rwigara said. She has joined Philippe Mpayimana and Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green party who are seeking to send home incumbent Paul Kagame.
