Male infertility can be defined as the male's inability to cause pregnancy in a fertile female after a long time of unprotected sexual intercourse. It affects approximately 7 percent of all male population in the world.
Infertility in men is a major obstacle for a couple planning to have a baby. Even though Male infertility manifests in various ways, these are the most common types of infertility faced by men.
1. Azoospermia
This condition is defined as the complete absence of sperms in the semen during ejaculation. It normally affects 5 percent of the men's population.
This condition can be caused by a blockage in the ejaculatory ducts thus preventing the free flow of sperms from testicles.
2. Oligospermia
This condition is also known as 'low sperm count'. The sperm cells, which are responsible for the sperm production, are very few thus hindering the production of maximum sperms required during fertilization which could have led to pregnancy.
3. Congenitial absence of vas deferens
This is a condition where the tubes which transport sperms from scrotum to the penis through the urethra during ejaculation do not develop properly before the birth.
Even though the patient with this condition produces sufficient and viable sperms, without a way to travel the sperms during the ejaculation reduces the chances of pregnancy.
4. Premature ejaculation
If a man consistently ejaculates before vaginal penetration, which can be caused by; prostate health issue and mental health issue, the chances of the gamates fusion becomes low thus preventing pregnancy.
