The county government of Uasin Gishu has adopted mobile money payment for street parking in a move to reduce corruption and increase revenue collection.

CeC in charge of ICT, Trade, and Industrialization, Dr. Emily Kogos said this will enhance transparency and accountability.

“As the county government, we have switched to Safaricom's M-Pesa platform as a way to seal loopholes in revenue loss. This time we don’t want to lose even a single cent,” she said in Eldoret town after she led a team that sensitized vehicle owners on the pilot plan.

"This plan only offers parking rights to those who have paid, unlike in previous times, no one handles any cash," said Dr. Kogos as she helped out a man to pay for parking.

She reiterated that any person wishing to pay is required to go to Mpesa menu on their phones, enter 646464 as Playbill, vehicle registration as the business number and pay Sh100.

Dr. Kogos however, said the county government will spend millions of shillings to invest in business incubator centers which will empower youths financially through the creation of employment opportunities.

"The scheme will be rolled out in all the six sub-counties, the days where youths used to stay without doing anything is now gone," she said.
