Politicians eyeing various elective positions in Uasin Gishu have pledged to ensure peace is maintained before, during and after the upcoming general elections.Speaking in Eldoret, during a 'Cooking for peace and reconciliation festival', the aspirants vowed not to engage in divisive politics while conducting their campaigns."We want a peaceful campaign period as well as after the elections and this is why we are here today to show our commitment to ensuring a violence free elections," said Prof Margret Kamar, a Senate hopeful in the County."There will be this county after the elections and violence will not do us any good. Each one of the aspirants need to know that peace is paramount," added Janet Koech Kurgat, Women Representative aspirant.Similar sentiments were shared by the Deputy governor Daniel Chemno who said peace was key for the county's economic development.The climax of the Festival which was organised by Kenyans for Peace and Reconciliation was for the participants to share meals from different communities together."All tribes has come to eat together as a sign of unity and make and pledge that no politician will divide them," said nominated MCA Rose Kisama, the organiser of the event, Friday.[Nominated MCA Rose Kisama speaking to the press during the "Cooking for peace and reconciliation festival" in Eldoret, April 7, 2017.
