The County Assembly of Uasin Gishu has approved a Sh7.4 billion County budget for the financial year 2017/2018.
This is after the County Finance and Economic Planning CeC Shadrack Sambai tabled the budget before the Assembly on Thursday.
Sambai while tabling the budget outlined key priority areas that the County government intents to focus on in the next financial year that begins July 1, 2017.
Water, Roads, Trade and Health sectors were allocated the lions share of the budget that will be funded largely by the National government through the Equitable share of Sh5.9 billion and a local revenue of Sh1 billion.
The County will also receive Sh221 million for Roads Mantainace levy, Sh30 million from World Bank under Kenya Devolution support program and Maternal Health care fund of sh117 million.
In the budget, Sh346 million was allocated to the Water sub-sector where Sh110 million will be used to develop water resources, Sh15 million for springs protection and a further Sh12 million for expansion and extension of water supplies.
Roads department was allocated Sh410 million due to what the Finace CeC said, “Roads is a major link of produce in the farm to the market.
We want to consolidate that by maintaining roads we have done through a proper maintenance.
”In the Health department, Sh200 million was allocated to the purchase and distribution of drugs to health facilities across the county while another Sh147 million was set aside to facilitate the construction of Sub-county hospitals.
Addressing the press after presenting the budget estimates statement, Sambai pointed out that the budget is meant to strengthen devolution help ensure service is taken closer to mwananchi.
“This budget is all about consolidating gains we have made for four years and conclude on priority programs on our County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP),” he said.
