Eldoret Catholic Arch Bishop Cornelius Korir has blamed the rising insecurity Rift Valley and North Eastern to poor leadership, corruption and lack of patriotism among some leaders and Kenyans.
The Bishop says that most security scares ranging from terrorism and cattle rustling in Rift Valley and North Eastern can be easily tackled if the government fights corruption.
“Corruption, poor leadership and lack of patriotism is ailing the country’s security, the country needs effective approaches to tame insecurity,” he said.
He was speaking in Eldoret where he hosted journalist.
He said that the war against graft should start at grass root levels, schools and in churches pointing out that educating and sensitizing the public on effects of graft should be the first step.
Bishop Korir also said that the fight against graft should not target specific people but cut across all those implicated.
The Bishop urged elected leaders to take their roles seriously and unite the people instead of antagonizing through their rhetoric.
On the same note, the Eldoret Catholic Bishop urged Kenyans to be patriotic and report criminals.
“These criminals are living among us, it’s our responsibility to report them to the police, that are when we will be safe,” he added.
Korir also wants religious leaders to help quell the situation especially on matters terrorism, cattle rustling, banditry and general crime.
