Leaders from Nakuru County have now accused Uasin Gishu County of ethnic profiling.
This is after a video clip that went viral that shows uniformed police officers destroying property on the street in Eldoret, which has sparked a public outburst.
According to the Nakuru leaders, most hawkers in the Eldoret town are considered to be from the Mount Kenya region, leading to the leaders to complain.
Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui also voiced his opinion, saying such a thing should not be happening in modern day Kenya.
“The same way we are looking after your people, you should do the same as well, that is the conversation we should have. I will talk to Mandago, let us not allow our party to be destroyed with issues that we can easily handle,” he said as quoted by NTV.
“He should not come in between us and jeopardize Ruto’s 2022 ambitions, right? Those are the issues that we would wan the deputy president to also look into, his presidential ambition should not be soiled by Mandago,” Said Kimani Ngunjiri.
Uasin Gishu leaders have however defended their actions, saying they used the right channel to have the hawkers out of the streets.
They have further accused the hawkers of selling illegal substances including alcohol and bhang, and are said to have stabbed a police officer, who is currently nursing injuries in hospital.
