The County Government of Uasin Gishu has added a new department to it's cabinet.
The Department of Cooperatives and Enterprise has been peeled off from Trade, Industrialization, Tourism and Cooperatives.
Speaking in Eldoret on Friday, the new County Executive of the Cooperatives and Enterprise Ms Esther Mutai said that the county governor Jackson Mandago is passionate about the cooperatives as his administration paves way to offer more loans to the movements.
"The county is planning to increase allocation for the fund to loan Cooperatives movements. We have loaned out more than Sh40 million last year and we want to aim higher these coming years," said Ms Mutai.
However, the cooperatives movements that have borrowed from the fund, were asked to repay the loans for the fund to revolve and grow.
After unsteady repayments of loans in the previous financial years by the Cooperatives, the county Administration is expected to set up an audit team that will be checking through the cooperatives' books.
