The Uasin Gishu county Assembly has passed a motion to amend its calendar and move forward the adjournment date by over a month.
The Assembly was scheduled to be adjourned this Thursday ahead of the general elections. However on Tuesday, Cheptiret Kipchamo MCA Josephine Tireito moved a motion seeking to extend the adjournment to July 27.
While moving the motion, Tireito said the move was meant to ensure the Assembly finalises on crucial house business among them passing the 2016/17 county budget, the budget and appropriation bill as well as the finance bill.
"We need to adjourn once we are sure everything is accomplished and in order. For now there are many crucial issues we need to address before the general elections," she said.
The motion received overwhelming support with MCA's saying their services were still needed.
"There are projects and legislations that need to be completed before the elections and they cannot be finalised without this Assembly's input hence an extension is justified," noted Rehema Korir, a nominated MCA.
