The Uasin Gishu County Assembly has invited applications for individuals interested in the office of the Speaker seat.
In an advertisement published on the local dailies, Tuesday, interested persons are required to pick application forms and nomination papers from the office of the clerk at the Assembly buildings in Eldoret town during working hours between 8.00am and 5.00pm.
"The office of the Clerk wishes to invite interested persons to collect application forms and nomination papers for election to the office of the Speaker," read part of the advertisement.
Nomination papers submitted for consideration should have names and signatures of at least two members who support the candidate.
"Completed application forms, nomination papers and Curriculum Vitae together with supporting documents shall be returned to the office of the Clerk, Uasin Gishu County Assembly not later than 3.00pm on 1st September 2017," noted the advertisement.
Already six candidates have expressed interest for the seat.
They include front runners incumbent Isaac Terer, Christopher Mitei who lost to Terer in the 2013 race, Jane Cheptoo Masai and Ruth Chemutai Chelashaw who is said to be having the support of Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago.Others in the race are David David Kiplagat and Ezekiel Kiyeng.
The Uasin Gishu County Assembly is expected to hold its first sitting on Tuesday with the first task of the MCAs being to appoint the Speaker and his/her Deputy.
