Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Mohammed has assured Journalists operating in the county of their safety.
Speaking to Journalists in his office on Tuesday, Commissioner Mohammed urged Media and individual Journalists to report threat cases they receive to Police for investigation and action to be taken adding that the county will not tolerate individuals or groups that threaten Journalists.
“Media should feel free and continue their work across Uasin Gishu County. We will not allow individuals to interfere or threaten the Media or anybody,” said Commissioner Mohammed.
Uasin Gishu County has been cited among counties that are hostile to Journalists following the killing of veteran Journalist John Kutuyi late last week.
Commenting on the killing, Commissioner Mohammed said that Police are finalising their investigations concerning the same.
“Detectives are finalising investigations in relation to the killing of John Kituyi who was killed on Thursday last week,” said Mohammed confirming that no arrest has been made so far.
Yesterday Eldoret based Human Rights Activists Ken Wafula called on the government to expedite probe on the the Journalist’s killing.
