Uasin Gishu County has embarked on a master plan that will ensure all drainage patterns in the Central Business District are well constructed, to reduce the issue of water overflow during the rainy season.
Speaking in his office on Monday, the CEC in charge of Roads Gideon Birir said that drainage has been a major challenge in Eldoret town since time immemorial, but will soon be a thing of the past with the said measures.
“Uasin Gishu County in conjunction with the World Bank has embarked on a drainage master fully funded by the World Bank which will advise us on what investment we need to put in a drainage system that is a long term solution,” he said.
He also added that as a short term solution to the drainage problems, the county government has deployed casual workers to open up all closed drainage facilities in Eldoret town and its outskirts, to ensure there is free water flow.
Birir further noted that his ministry has been allocated Sh630 million for the construction of bridges and roads, as well as gravelling of newly opened roads, and soon all rural roads will be murammed.
