Youths in Uasin Gishu county have a reason to smile after the county government revealed plans to start an internship program for them beginning January 2018.

According to governor Jackson Mandago, the program is meant to ensure every youth who graduates from institution of higher learning gets work experience which is crucial and a prerequisite to employment.

Speaking during a visit to Cheptiret/Kipchamo Ward in Kesses Sub-county, Thursday, Mandago said youths who will be enrolled in the program will get a monthly stipend.

"Many of our youths are loosing out on crucial jobs for lack of experience and we well seek to change this trend under this program," noted the governor.

"Those who will get internship under this program will be paid for their daily upkeep," he added.

As a start, Mandago said 40 youths would be equitably selected from across the 30 wards in the county to join the internship program.

"We are hoping that this initiative will bring to an end the habit of our young people being turned away by companies for lack of the needed experience," he said.
