Traffic police in Eldoret town have put in place raft measures to reduce road accidents during this festive season.
According to Base commander, Humphrey Kidei, the measures include the use of the Alco-blow and spot inspection of speed governors for public service vehicles.
Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, Kidei said the measures are aimed at ensuring that motorists adhere to traffic rules and regulations in order to reduce road accidents.
The officer said that accidents as a result of over speeding, overloading and reckless driving had increased in the last two weeks, since the onset of the festive season.
“Inspection of speed governors and the condition of all public service vehicles will be conducted to get rid of those that are un-roadworthy,” said Kidei.
“We will also be monitoring those vehicles that travel during the night to ensure that they fully comply,” he emphasized.
He warned drivers against driving while under the influence of alcohol, saying alco-blow will not spare them, advising those who want to drink to ensure they hire a taxi or have friends to drive them home.
“We will be working hand in hand with the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) in order to ensure that drunk drivers are caught and prosecuted,” added Kidei.
