Uasin Gishu County will be represented by three athletes in this year's International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) world U18 championships which is set to kick off July 12 - 16 at Nairobi's Safaricom Sports Kasarani Stadium.
County Secretary Peter Leley flagged off the Uasin Gishu IAAF caravan which has been traversing various counties to create awareness on the event.Leley said the county would ensure that sports are realised among the youth, adding that it is one of the key areas the county is looking into, as a way of empowering them."We are the County of Champions and we are supposed to live by our slogan and for this, we are going to scoop an award through the athletes who will represent us," he said.Speaking on behalf of IAAF, Joseph Lagat who is the Association's marketing director applauded the County's commitment to naturing sports talent among the youth across the county.The association presented entry tickets to governor Jackson Mandago, his deputy Daniel Chemno and all the executive who will represent the county at the event. Lagat further confirmed that all the athletes and those in attendance would receive proper treatment to and fro the competition.
