Speaking to journalists on Monday in Eldoret Town Mandago said that there might be some criminal elements among some students at Garissa University.

"We want former Garissa University students vetted before joining Moi University Eldoret,” said Mandago.

The governor claims that there are some reports that some students had joined Al Shabaab militants and work hand in hand with them.

Mandago warned that if proper measures are not taken before admitting the students, it could spell doom to the Eldoret based institution.

"This time you have to listen at us and involve us too. We will not let Al Shabaab elements infiltrate here,” he said.

The more than 500 students are expected to be admitted at the university after the closure of Garissa Universiy College.

The university closed following Al Shabaab attacks which left 148 dead.
