The county government of Uasin Gishu has been challenged to put in place measures that will see people living with disabilities (PLWD's) given opportunities in employment and procurement.

Chairperson of the umbrella of people living with disability in the county Regina Chumba says there is much to be done to help PLWD's to not only sustain themselves but also play a role in the county's development agenda.

Speaking in Eldoret on Friday, Chumba lamented over the exclusion of PLWD's in key county appointments.

"The governor recently named his cabinet and it's unfortunate that there was no person living with disabilities. However we hope to get representation when Chief Officers will be named," Chumba said.

She further called for the allocation of some procurement opportunities for the PLWD's as required by law.

"When you compare Uasin Gishuwith other counties like Nandi, we are lurking behind in terms of championing for the interests of PLWD's," noted Chumba."

All we need is to be given an opportunity and we are certain that we will prove that we are capable because disability has never been inability," she added.
