Langas Member of County Assembly Francis Muya has welcomed a decision by the Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC) to slash salaries of state officers in the country.
The MCA has however warned the Sarah Serem-led commission against setting salaries that might not sustain the affected office holders.
Speaking at the Uasin Gishu county Assembly buildings in Eldoret on Thursday, Muya asked individuals affected by the pay cut to take the move positively.
"Salary reduction is not an issue for some of us who are in power not for money but we have a calling to serve mwananchi and bring change to them," noted Muya who is seeking re-election on a Jubilee party ticket.
"What I want to ask SRC is to ensure the new basic salaries they are setting should correspond with their work and must be able to sustain the officers and enable them effectively deliver their mandate to Kenyans," he added.
In the recent salary review of state officers by SRC, all the sitting allowances for Members of Parliament and MCAs have been scrapped.
Monthly Salaries for the President and his Deputy have also been reduced and will now earn Sh1.4 million and Sh1.2 million respectively down from Sh1.65 milliom and Sh1.4million.
MP's will get Sh621,250 down from Sh710,000 and MCAs will carry home Sh144,000.
