Majority leader Josephat Lowoi and minority leader Ramadhan Ali, however, dismissed the claims, saying they have not exceeded SRC recommended allowances.

"We have our own figures, which we will make public because we do not know who gave out fake figures on our earnings," Ali said on phone.

Lowoi wondered how they can get more allowances than expected.

Unnamed official from the assembly, however, revealed that the MCAs sign that they attended the maximum number of meetings to draw illegal allowances.

"The interesting thing is that there are no reports for the said meetings. They cannot be explained to warrant payment of allowances," said the official.

He cited the Disaster Management Committee that claims allowances for the maximum eight meetings a week yet producecs no reports.

The office of the Comptroller of Budget has listed Uasin Gishu among 13 counties that should be probed over excess earnings by MCAs.
