Members of the Uasin Gishu county assembly have adopted a report on culture and heritage policy that stipulates how the the county government can develop a strong and vibrant county identity as well as promote cohesion.

The report compiled by the assembly’s committee on Children, Culture, Gender and Social Services on the culture and Heritage policy 2017 proposes the establishment of community cultural centers which will be used as hubs for the development, preservation, promotion and dissemination of culture.

While moving the motion, Moisbridge MCA Daniel Sanga said the cultural policy will help in promotion of unity, creation of awareness on cultural right and intellectual property rights of the communities.

“This will promote creative cultural industries and centres. We have so many people like the elderly and the youths that we can bring on board to implement this move,” said Sanga.

The motion received overwhelming support from members.

“This is a very important motion and I believe it is the beginning of good things to come. We need something that will really identify Uasin Gishu from other counties,” noted Tembelio MCA Pius Kigen.
