Farmers in the North Rift region have a reason to smile after Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren was elected the chairman of the National Assembly's Agriculture Committee.
Tiren has been at the forefront in championing for the interests of farmers since he was elected in 2013.
He was our elected unopposed during an exercise that was overseen by the director of committee services Florence Abonyo.Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe was elected to be the committee's vice chair.
Election of Tiren comes as a relief to many farmers especially in the North Rift which is the country's food basket.
He was a member of the committee in the 11th Parliament.
The two-time MP has been pushing for the allocation of more funds to agricultural institutions in the country so as to help farmers financially.
He recently called for the compensation of all farmers affected by various natural calamities among them prolonged drought and fall armyworms that caused farmers to incur huge loses and a drop in maize production.
