Uasin Gishu government through the Department of Health Services is poised to ensure transmission of HIV and AIDs from mother to child is prevented.
Chief nursing officer Esther Serem said they will ensure all mothers are offered HIV test during the first antenatal visit and those who test HIV positive are given Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy (HAART) and infant prophylaxis.
"This will ensure that the national positivity rate is below 5% by 2021 but we are glad that in Uasin Gishu we are at 5.7% with Turbo Sub County currently below 5%," she said during the graduation ceremony of HIV/AIDS Exposed Infants in Eldoret town, Friday.
"HIV Exposed Infant graduation is an indication that elimination of mother to child transmission is achievable as we graduate 102 children who have attained 18 months and above with 100 (98%) children being HIV negative," she added.
She, however, advised HIV/AIDS infected mothers to continue with their medication and eat a healthy diet for better living.
County HIV/AID's Coordinator Kiplagat Rono noted that the health department will ensure that mothers living with HIV deliver in hospital and are monitored in the Maternal Child Health (MCH) with their babies foe 18 months then discharged to comprehensive care clinic for continued care.
