Kimei said the county's health department had put necessary measures in place to ensure all the health facilities were equipped with adequate drugs.

"We had challenges on drugs procurement in the past financial years, we usually procured our drugs quarterly. This didn't work at all," Kemei said.

He spoke during impromptu visits to Kuinet Health Centre, Cheramei Dispensary and Turbo Sub County Hospital on Friday.

"We went ahead and introduced a strategy where we procured drugs twice a year which worked very well," Kimei added.

Kimei disclosed that the health department was expecting to receive a consignment of drugs worth Sh95 million next week.

He said the drugs will be distributed to all public health facilities in the county according to their priorities.

Usually the 121 County facilities have been contacting KEMSA on an independent level on the kind of drugs they need.

"With the help of the county's ready drug store, all drugs upon being received will be stored after which it will await distribution," Kimei said.

He inspected the newly acquired state of the art X-ray machines, construction of 36 bed male and female wards in Kuinet Health Centre and 30 bed ward at Cheramei Dispensary in Turbo.
