About 350 Saccos in Uasin Gishu County have already collapsed due to poor management, according to county Governor Jackson Mandago.

Speaking to journalists and other residents in the streets of Eldoret town, Mandago said that only 112 Saccos are active.

“It is very sad seeing a county like Uasin Gishu County only having 112 Saccos which are active. 350 Saccos have already collapsed due to either mismanagement, or poor management caused by the officials. I urge the members of the Saccos to be very keen when electing their officials,” said Mandago.

He further said that the County Government was soon going to start a programme which will see all the officials of the Saccos and its members being trained on how to manage their Saccos smoothly to avoid collapse.

“We want to ensure that all the Saccos are revived and they operate smoothly without much difficulties. The Saccos are of very great importance to its members and we should ensure that they operate smoothly and in a transparent manner,” he added.

The Governor went ahead and said that his county government has allocated Sh20 million to cooperate enterprise funds, which will be used to revive all the Saccos and also give loans to needy Saccos.

“This money will be aimed at ensuring that all the Saccos are revived and those which will be in need of funds will be given upon applying for loans,” he added.

He went ahead and urged the residents of Uasin GIshu County to join Saccos and societies to better their lives.
