The county government of Uasin Gishu has put in place elaborate measures aimed at improving milk production among its dairy farmers.

According to the county's Agriculture Executive (CeC), Samson Yego, they are targeting to be a leading milk producing county across the country.

Kiambu and Murang'a are considered top milk producing counties.

"We were once a top milk producer but now we've slipped to third. We want to reclaim that lost glory and this is why as a county we are investing heavily in the dairy sector," Yego said in Eldoret on Sunday.

He pointed out that the county had subsidized sexed semen which is now available to farmers at an affordable rate and urged farmers to take advantage of the subsidy.

"The quality of our dairy cows is key for us to produce more milk and this is why a farmer can now get sexed semen for as low as sh500 down from Sh2,500," noted the CeC.

"We've also acquired about 46 milk coolers that will be set upwards and preserve the quality of milk and avoid loses farmers incur due to poor storage," he added.
