Uasin Gishu County Senator Isaac Melly has asked the County government to increase bursary allocations per ward from Sh.3 Million to Sh.6 Million.
Melly said that parliament has significantly raised allocations to counties in the coming financial year and therefore the County government should consider raising bursary allocations to the wards so that more pupils can benefit.
"We want all children especially those from poor backgrounds to get access to quality education and training. That is why we want the bursary allocations to the wards here to be raised," said Melly.
At the same time, the Senator asked corporate to also give back to the community by sponsoring poor children around where they operate.
"We want more corporate to come in and help bright students achieve their dreams. Our 2030 Vision is education driven,” said Melly.
He was speaking in Eldoret Town last weekend during an Equity Bank function where 20 students received full sponsorships up to university.
