The new directives by the Cabinet Secretary of Education Jacob Kaimenyi on school heads have been strongly opposed by teachers in Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking to the press from his office at Cheptiret trading centre, John Bor, Knut Secretary General Chepkoilel branch said that the new directive is totally against the law.
“We are all aware that the only body that has the mandate to hire, fire and even promote head teachers is the Teachers Service Commission. We differ with the CS saying that he has the power to do so. He should concentrate on his work and let the TSC do its work,” said Bor.
“It seems that the Cabinet Secretary wants to do the job of TSC, I strongly advise him to concentrate with his work,” he added.
Bor urged the government to intervene and come out clearly on whose mandate it is to hire, fire and even promote head teachers.
He also asked the county government to set up infrastructures in schools to enable smooth learning.
“We are urging the county government, led by Governor Jackson Mandago to kindly help in improving the quality and standards of education in the county, and this can be done through improving infrastructures in schools,” he added.
