Uasin Gishu County Government in conjunction with European investors will start producing cooking gas and electricity from waste that is collected from Eldoret Town.
Addressing journalists in Eldoret yesterday, Uasin Gishu County Environment Executive Samuel Kimei, revealed that the project will also create job opportunities for the youths.
He said that the county government is in the process of acquiring the necessary materials that will facilitate the process.
“The government has put in a lot of efforts to ensure we procure eco-bins to encourage people to do separation from the source,” said Kimei.
He added: “We want to encourage our youths and investors to venture into the recycling process. We intend to partner with our investors to do recycling at our current dumpsite at Kipkelion and the end product of it will be electricity, cooking gas and employment for the youths.”
The CeC also asked Uasin Gishu residents to be mindful of their environment and urged them to follow good waste disposal practices.
