Uasin Gishu county government is determined to ensure the affairs of people living with disabilities in the county are adequately catered for.
Speaking during the United Nations Worlds disability day at the Eldoret Catholic Cathedral on Thursday, CeC in charge of Health Margaret Chepkwony said that they have set aside funds to fund people living with disability.
"In this financial year we have set asideSh20 million for people with disabilities to improve their livelihoods," she said.
She said the amount will be used to give loans to groups of people with disabilities, mapping and carrying out sensitisation on how they can access the government tenders.
"We have put into consideration people with disability by awarding the 10 percent tenders and creating jobs for them. For instance, those in charge of cleaning at the county headquarters are hearing impaired," she said.
She urged people with disabilities to join groups for them to benefit from the funds being given by the county government.
"We have embarked on a programme meant to make all county offices accessible to people with disabilities by building lifts," she added.
She also sent a warning to those still hiding people with disability in their homes, that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
