The county government of Uasin Gishu has warned traders selling alcoholic drinks against operating outside the set laws and regulations.
Governor Jackson Mandago says his administration will only allow traders who have complied with the law to operate alcohol business.
Speaking during a County Inter-Agency Committee meeting at the county headquarters in Eldoret town on Tuesday, Mandago reiterated the need for concerted efforts in the fight against the manufacture, distribution, and use of illicit alcohol and other substance abuse in the county.
The governor further pointed out that a close working relationship with all agencies will make it easy to curb rising cases of illicit second generation alcohol, mostly believed to be smuggled from the neighboring countries.
"It is through this united front, that we will jointly enforce the strict adherence of the County Alcoholic Drinks Control Act (2014)," Mandago said.
"I am determined that in the near future Uasin Gishu County will be a drug-free County," he added.The meeting was also attended by the County Commissioner Abdi Hassan, Turbo MP Janet Rotich among others.
