Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Thursday passed a bill meant for the county government to set aside some money for the construction of at least one cultural and heritage center in each ward in an effort of promoting African Culture.

Daniel Sanga MCA Mois Bridge and the chairman Education who introduced the bill said that there has been an increased moral decay in the society where the youths have embraced western culture and forgetting their own traditions and yet culture is the foundation of our Nation.

"Our culture is under threat and most communities have done away with their traditional culture which has led to the increased number of the gay community and alcoholism which has really affected the youths," he said.

He added after its completion the cultural and heritage center will act as an achieve of all traditional tools and it will be used to offer information to the youths on their culture during their great grandfathers used to do, what they are supposed to do and what not and through that the society will be of good morals.

"I would be a happy man when mother tongue lessons will be introduced in schools and youths taught how to speak since the majority of our youths are not conversant with their traditional language and yet they boast of belonging to a certain tribal affiliation,” he said.

He urged the youths to shun western culture and embrace their own since western culture has brought the increase of moral degradation in the society.

"Parents should be on the forefront in teaching their children their tradition way of life since they are the ones who always with them and incase of poor behaviour they are the ones to blame," he reiterated.
