A plan by Uasin Gishu County government aimed at installing CCTV cameras in Eldoret town has collapsed, due to what the county government terms as lack of enough funding.
Speaking to the press on Monday morning in his office in Eldoret town, Barnabas Sang, who is the County ICT Executive said that they have only been able to install the cameras at the County Headquarters at a cost of Sh8 million.
“Actually, we cannot be able to install cameras as we had already said since we have very little funding to ensure that the whole project is finished. We are left with Sh5 million, which we are going to use in putting up cameras at the main market in the town, the slaughter house and also only two locations in the town,” Sang told the press.
The ICT executive said that with the increasing terror threats in the town, the county government had hoped to go ahead and install the cameras in all the major streets in Eldoret town, but due to lack of funds, it became impossible
Sang went ahead and urged all the traders and also the owners of buildings to partner with the county government in installing the cameras, to help ensuring that the security of the town is highly improved.
“I take this chance to kindly request owners of buildings and other traders to put up cameras in their locations and partners with the county government so as we can ensure that the security in our streets is highly improved,” added Sang.
