Lecturers from Machakos University have officially joined their colleagues in the ongoing national strike.
They demand the implementation of CBA agreement between them and the national government which they referred to as 2017 - 2022 CBA.
Addressing the press after a demonstration within the university compound, the UASU Machakos University chairman Martin Kasina said they were ready for negotiations with the government.
Kasina said they will not resume duty if the governments fails to address their concerns.
He said in the CBA are; job group distinction, car and mortgage loans just like any other civil servant in Kenya.
“It’s a pity to get a professor working in the same job group for over 12 years without promotion with very junior lecturers,"Kasina said.
Kasina said they will join hands with all lecturers across the nation to ensure that they get decent pay and promotions as required by the law.
According to the Machakos University students secretary general Gedion Omare, the government must intervene to ensure that the students do not suffer due to the strike.
“We have paid our fees and we are not getting value for it due to government's negligence in paying lecturers, so we as students urge the government to sit down with the lecturers union and come up with a lasting solution to the stalemate," Omare said.
