Teaching it public universities is expected to be on the halt for long as the lecturers’ union moves to court to appeal against last week’s decision that ordered them back to work.
Speaking to the press in Nairobi on Sunday, UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga said that members of the governing council had voted that the Union appeal against the decision saying that they are committed to challenging the law appropriately.
“We respect the law and we want to challenge the ruling by following the laid down procedures. I want to let the public know that this union upholds the law. We will request the court to have our case heard at the court of appeal,” Dr. Wasonga said.
In addition, the unionist faulted the Labour court for not giving them the exact date on when negotiations will commence.
“Employment and labour relations court did not give us a date on when IPUCCF would give their guideline relating to our 2017/2021 CBA. The court also did not give a timetable for negotiations,” Wasonga added.
The road does not seem to clear any time soon as the non-teaching staff under their union KUSU have vowed to boycott work until their demands are met.
