Drivers working with online taxi service providers have threatened to down their tools from Monday in protest over reduction of their pay.
The drivers allied to Uber, Mondo and Little Cab said their pay was lowered by the management without consulting them.
"You are hereby asked to go offline and stay at home or commit yourself to other duties but we shall not be protesting in the streets of Nairobi like in the previous time," said a memo to the drivers as reported by the Star.
Digital Taxi Association of Kenya chairperson David Muteru said the per-kilometer wages have been lowered from the earlier Sh42 to Sh29.
"Once we get good prices we can always take anything in stride. The prices are what are making this work untenable," Muteru said.
Their Secretary General Peter Mbugua also said they will push for a Sh4 per-minute wage and another fee of 20 per cent for their Uber counterparts.
"Let us all unite and do this together because it affects us all in this taxi hailing industry and the victory shall be ours all," read the memo in part.
