Eight Uber drivers who demonstrated over pay rates on Wednesday were on Thursday charged at Milimani law courts for causing disturbance and resisting arrest.

Appearing before Milimani senior principal magistrate Martha Mutuku, the drivers James Njoroge, Paul Mwolyo, Noah Wetindi, Mwangi Githae, Edwin Kaguo, Zachari Kaguo, Erick Maribi and Simon macharia denied the 2 charges.

The prosecution told the court on September 13 along Uhuru and Waiyaki ways in Nairobi, the suspects and others not before court created a disturbance in a manner likely breach peace.

They were accused of issuing threats and shouting at motorists, disrupting traffic flow. 

The drivers also blocked the roads and damaged other vehicles.

Njoroge, Mwolyo and Wetindi were also charged for resisting arrest by police officers from Central police station led by ODCP Alphonce Ngundo.

The drivers demonstrated after their company reduced commission from 25 to 15 per cent without consultation.

They were released on Sh80,000 cash bail each.

The case will be heard on September 28.
